Organizational Mission

The Deng Ater foundation is a public, Tucson, Arizona based, 501c3 non-profit organization committed to providing the opportunity of an education to all children of southern Sudan.

Abraham Deng Ater
Founder/President - 520.891.9802

Born in Werbuot Village in the Upper Nile River Valley of southern Sudan, Abraham emigrated to the United States in the spring of 2001 from Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya and was resettled in the Tucson Arizona area. In May of 2004 he received his Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Pima Community College and in May of 2006 he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Science and Physiology from the University of Arizona. Upon his graduation in May of 2006 he was awarded the Physiology department's Wildcat Award for having the persistence to succeed in the face of great adversity and in December of 2006 Abraham proudly became a US citizen. In May of 2007 he returned to southern Sudan where he was reunited with the surviving members of his family for the first time in over 20 years. And in January of 2008 he founded the Deng Ater Foundation - Lost boys Schools for Sudan; to build schools throughout southern Sudan. In the fall of 2008, Abraham was accepted into the College of Public Heath and is pursuing his Masters of Public Health Degree at the same University while working a part time job and on building the Foundations team as well.


Donald Ray Dains

Born and raised in Tucson Arizona, Donald has called Tucson home his entire life. He met Abraham in the Fall of 2002 while attending the University of Arizona, where he later graduated in May of 2004 with a Bachelors of Fine Art, Media Art, Film & Television Production. In May of 2007 he traveled with Abraham to southern Sudan to be a part of his reunion and had a desire to understand some of the current challenges facing the Sudanese people today. After experiencing the great need first hand, they decided to take the necessary steps to create a public non-profit 501c3 organization that would fund an educational process and in January of 2008 together they founded the Deng Ater Foundation - Lost Boys Schools for Sudan. Donald has traveled extensively around the world and has worked in various fields, most recently, construction project management. His varied work history brings with it a wealth of real world experience and knowledge that lends itself well to the efforts of the Foundation. Donald is currently working full time on building the Foundations team.


Diane Marie Dains
Co-Founder/Secretary - 520.401.5816

Born and raised in the Bronx New York, Diane has called Tucson her home for 24 years now. She met Abraham in the Fall of 2002 while attending the University of Arizona, where she later graduated in May of 2004 with a Bachelors of Fine Art, Media Art, Film & Television Production. Diane is both a Co-Founder and Secretary of the Foundation and has worked tirelessly to support it's efforts. Diane currently works full time in Real Estate and part time with Abraham and her husband to build the Foundations team.

Holly Page
Director of Healthcare Education - 209.601.9967

Holly met Abraham in the fall of 2008 as a graduate student while attending the University of Arizona, College of Public Health. Born and raised in California, Holly graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in May of 2007 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Public Health and is graduating in December of 2008 with a Masters in Public Health. Holly plans to travel to Sudan in January of 2009 to help institute the Foundations first Health Education Initiative in Duk County, within the towns of Mareng, Padiat, Faiwil and Yoril. Holly has traveled to Ghana, Africa where she spent a month working in a local clinic and teaching science classes at a primary school. She looks forward to seeing the Deng Ater Foundation grow and being a part of the Foundation’s team.
