The Deng Ater Foundation is launching a new campaign to bring backpacks and school supplies to students in southern Sudan.
The Backpacks for Sudan Campaign aims to supply backpacks filled with school supplies, donated by American students, to the students of schools currently operating in southern Sudan.
Please donate your new or gently used backpack and our US staff will hand deliver them to our partner schools in southern Sudan during our next site visits.
We are requesting that each backpack contain essential supplies only, such as a calculator, a writing notebook, pens, pencils and erasers. These backpacks will allow students to travel to and from school without their supplies getting wet or ruined, as well as to store other personal belongings safely.
Additionally, we request that you also provide an extra $20 for students, so they may purchase the textbooks needed to allow them to complete their homework and lessons effectively.

We request that each Tucson area school participating in the Backpacks for Sudan Campaign set up an individual collection point.
Donate a new or gently used laptop to the Deng Ater Foundation and we will hand deliver it to our partner schools in southern Sudan.
We are initially requesting laptops, instead of desktops, because of the benefit of being lightweight and easy to transport. We are also requesting that laptops be no more than 3 years old. (2005 and newer)
In the 21st century computer technology is an essential component to a comprehensive education and is an equally important field to encourage in developing, post-conflict economies such as southern Sudan’s.
Your in-kind donation of a laptop will have an immediate and direct impact on a child's education by providing them with the opportunity to connect with the world around them and learn the essential computer skills needed for future personal and career growth.

Send us any books you have that are suitable for young students learning English, grades K-12 and/or ages 5-18.
Help us spread the word, send out a mass E-mail, call your friends, family or business associates who may have books their own children have outgrown.
Everyone knows someone who has an old copy of Charlotte's Web, Curious George or Hop-on-Pop lying around.
When sent to southern Sudan, it will be read by hundreds if not thousands of times by just as many happy and eager students.
